On April 5th, Expressen reported Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘very interested’ to sign IFK Norrköping’s talented young star Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson.
It was also stated the 18-year-old could be on his way to the Premier League, where Wolves are believed to be negotiating with the Swedish club.
The Premier League side’s chances of quickly signing the Iceland international have been dismissed by Norrköping sporting director Patrik Jönsson.
After Expressen’s report came out on Monday, NT got in touch with Jönsson and his comments are relayed by Fotbollskanalen.
He said: “No, there are no ongoing negotiations [with Wolves].”
Norrköping chief scout Stig Torbjörnsen admitted last October that Liverpool are one of 10 clubs closely following the teenager.
Jönsson has expressed his desire to retain the versatile player, while he also refused to discuss if his side will look to sell Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson in the summer.
“Of course, we want to play with the best players and keep as many of them as possible,” Jönsson explained.
“But we realise there may be interest in some and then you have to consider letting them go in such cases, if it is at the right price and the players themselves want and so on. There are many parameters that must be matched.”
“There is nothing I want to comment on [whether his club will sell Jóhannesson in the summer] in more detail.
“Of course, we are happy to see that we can keep our squad intact with the qualities that exist. Then it is of course nice that there is interest in some of our players. But we’ll see where it lands, if that’s the case. It’s not something I know about, like I said.”
