Steadily improving from season to season, Samu Castillejo is enjoying himself at Villarreal following his 2015 transfer from Malaga.

Going from two goals and two assists in 45 appearances to three goals and five assists in 42 games this season, the 21-year-old is catching the eye of many scouts with his speed and dribbling, causing defences more and more problems.

This has led to rumours circulating he could be among a list of players Pep Guardiola is looking at to bolster his Manchester City squad next season, especially if they end up losing Jesus Navas in the summer, despite offering him a new contract.

The fact Castillejo still has three years left on his contract means Villarreal would require a hefty fee for their starlet, with Il Mattino reporting a month or so ago the Spanish club could ask for up to €40m.

While this is a fee Manchester City could easily fork out on a young talent, the player himself isn’t fazed by what goes on in the transfer rumour mill, and isn’t even thinking about leaving Villarreal in the summer.

Asked about the interest from the Etihad, he told Mundo Deportivo on Friday: “At the moment, I’m very comfortable here. I’m happy in this club. In the end, no one knows what the future holds for footballers as you can leave every year, but what I do know is that I’m very happy at Villarreal”.

Not exactly the words of someone desperate to make a move to the Premier League, and, at 21 years of age, you can understand that.

Give it a few years, we say.
