This is perhaps one of our favourtie transfer rumours of all time, and likely not for the best reasons.
Turkey’s Fotomac have reported Galatasaray have received an ‘absurd offer’ for Wesley Sneijder from Sunderland.
Yes, that’s S-u-n-d-e-r-l-a-n-d and W-e-s-l-e-y S-n-e-i-j-d-e-r.
Last weekend Sunderland were relegated from the Premier League and David Moyes’ squad needs a complete overhaul in the summer.
Galatasaray are thought to be interested in Sunderland outcast Jeremain Lens, who’s currently having a successful season long loan spell at Fenerbahçe. Fotomac say Galatasaray are exploring the possibility of signing Lens and have made an enquiry to Sunderland
According to Fotomac an unnamed football agent has informed Galatasaray that Sunderland want to sign their captain Sneijder as part of the deal to let Lens join the Turkish giants. Galatasaray officials were shocked with the offer from the North East side, and immediately rejected the bid.
It’s also unlikely Sneijder would play in the Championship next season after being linked with some of the top Premier League sides in recent years.
Sunderland would also be unable to match the wages he’s currently getting in Turkey given they are now set to be in the second tier.
Maybe this is David Moyes trying to revive an old Manchester United dream, or perhaps it’s Sunderland winding Galatasaray up. Whatever it is, it’s not going to happen.
