On May 3rd, we carried a report from Bild, who explained that Arsenal are among the clubs who have ‘put out feelers’ for Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji.
Bild also stated it is ‘almost impossible’ for the centre-back to continue with the German club beyond this season after they sealed deals for Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck.
The Switzerland international has just over a year left on his contract with the Bundesliga side and his long-term future seems to be away from his current employer.
That’s according to this week’s edition of SportBild , who explain the defender ‘does not want to extend’ his contract at BVB. Therefore, he ‘should be sold’ in the next window and Dortmund’s idea is to collect €25m from Akanji’s sale.
Arsenal get a mention in the report as the Gunners are said to be ‘interested’ in the 26-year-old.
The report, however, makes it clear that ‘there is no offer yet’ from Mikel Arteta’s side for the player.
That’s because Arsenal and his other suitors are aware that if Akanji were to further falter, then his asking price ‘will continue to drop every week’.
