It’s been a week of ups and downs for Paul Pogba, first slammed for his performance against Finland before being praised for his resurgence against Portugal.
Struggling for form at Manchester United, there was hope this international break could get him back on track, and while his first outing was worrying, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take solace from his midfielder’s second game.
We’ll have to see if that carries over back into the next game at Old Trafford against West Bromwich Albion, and the player is certainly keen to put all this behind him, as he told RTL in France in a four minute interview.
Among the topics discussed was his drop in form, which Pogba was very open about.
He said: “It’s something I’d never encountered in my career, where I’ve been used to playing often, getting some rhythm and suddenly it all changing. I’m getting back a feel for things bit by bit, finding myself again. That’s the kind of performance I need to do [against Portugal], all the time. Be consistent”.
That was clarified by the man who conducted the interview, Philippe Sanfourche, on Twitter, going out of his way to explain that ‘at no moment does he badmouth his club, but is just explaining he’s struggling and needs to find consistency in his performances’.
Précision pour les supporters de MU. A aucun moment il ne dénigre son club mais fait juste le constat qu’il est en difficulté et doit retrouver de la constance dans ses performances. https://t.co/yxf6FsgtG9

That this needed clarifying shows just how easy it is for people to spin quotes from Paul Pogba negatively, just for the sake of creating a buzz.
Unfortunately, that’s simply how some parts of the media are these days, as we’ve seen with other, far younger, members of the Manchester United squad of late.
