With Tottenham Hotspur being linked to Porto midfielder Sérgio Oliveira in the past few days, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a story explaining the player’s situation with the Dragons.
‘No hurry to sell Oliveira’, says their headline, making it clear that his club will wait until they get a fair deal for the 29-year-old.
The midfielder was already expected to leave Porto this summer, as there had been an agreement with Fiorentina for his move. With Gennaro Gattuso giving up on commanding the Italian side this season, the deal fell apart.
Now all the Dragons want is to confirm his sale, and according to O Jogo, the club are ‘confident’ they can make at least €20m with the transfer.
They believe there’s enough time for it this summer.
With rumours from England claiming Tottenham could soon make a bid for Oliveira, O Jogo writes there’s no hurry, despite the deadline for the financial year this week. The outlet claims Porto should wait until the end of the Euros, and would get the help of agent Jorge Mendes to make the sale.
And Tottenham aren’t expected to move that fast, since they must look for a new manager as well. It’s said that in case Nuno Espírito Santo takes the job, then it’d make it easier for Oliveira to take the same path.
O Jogo isn’t the only one talking about Tottenham’s chase for Oliveira today. Other newspapers such as A Bola, Correio da Manhã and Record all mention the rumour as well.
However, none of them seem to have additional information on it, as they all only claim that the Dragons plan to make €20m with the midfielder’s sale.
