Nottingham Forest star Matz Sels has insisted he has no feelings of revenge towards Newcastle United, as he tries to beat them to the Champions League.

Het Niuewsblad have comments from the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper today as he continues to shine this season and push the club towards the European promised land.

The Belgian goalkeeper has proven to be one of the revelations of the season, with a number of exceptional performances under his belt as part of Forest’s impressive defensive set up.

The 33-year-old has proven to be a real surprise package, with many eyebrows raising when the club paid €8m to sign him from Strasbourg last year.

That scepticism came after his previous stint in the Premier League with Newcastle, where he managed just 14 appearances after arriving in 2016 before being shipped back to Belgium a year later then sold permanently to Strasbourg in 2018.

His time in the North East was nothing short of a disaster but he’s quickly proven his worth under Nuno Espirito Santo and banished those memories to the past.

Now the two sides are in the race for the top four, with Nottingham Forest third on 54 points and Newcastle currently sixth on 47, two points behind Chelsea in fourth. Sels, though, insists he has no ill-feelings towards his former club.

“I have no feelings of revenge at all,” he said.

“I was still very young at Newcastle. My first adventure abroad was not easy, but sometimes such an experience makes you stronger.”
