Despite the joint announcement from Premier League clubs saying they would not release international players who’d have to travel to red list countries, some sides were still convinced to make agreements.
That’s the case of Aston Villa, who in an official statement, explained that Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia would travel to Argentina for only two games instead of three.
That means the players would only face Venezuela on the 2nd of September and Brazil on the 5th. They’d return early, instead of staying in South America to face Bolivia on the 9th.
So these players would have three or four days less of quarantine, and potentially miss less games for Aston Villa. However, according to the Argentine national team, that’s not what’s happening.
Speaking to the local media, Lionel Scaloni talked about the situation of players who were nearly stopped from joining the squad. And claimed that he’s planning to use the Aston Villa internationals in all three games Argentina have ahead.
“We gave the list for the three games and there are no doubts about that. The players are here to play all three games,” said Scaloni (via Olé).
Aston Villa are facing Chelsea on the 11th of September, Everton on the 18th and then the London side again for the Capital One Cup on 22nd. In case the players take part in the three Argentina games and then quarantine, it’s likely they’d miss at least two club matches.
