Earlier this week, we covered a story coming out of France via Foot Mercato that Manchester United had rekindled their interest for Sergej Milinković-Savić.
It was explained the player is seen as a ‘perfect prototype’ to replace Paul Pogba should the Frenchman be sold, and the Old Trafford based side had ‘gone up a gear’ in their pursuit of the Serbian.
Furthermore, they were said to be able to count on the help of Fali Ramadani, who was working as an intermediary to try and bring the midfielder to England, lending a hand to the midfielder’s agent Mateja Kezman.
This, of course, did the rounds in the tabloids, which means it then made its way to Italy, where Corriere dello Sport have a big article on this United interest, naming an English newspaper as the source, which isn’t the case.
We’ll ignore that, however, because what interests us is what appears to be their information at the end.
The Foot Mercato article, while filled with useful information, didn’t mention how much Milinković-Savić would cost Manchester United, as all they said was Lazio had rejected an offer worth €110m last year.
Well, Corriere dello Sport reckon such a figure probably wouldn’t be turned down this time around, as they claim Claudio Lotito, the Serie A club’s owner, will make ‘no discounts’ and ask for a minimum of €100m for his star, regardless of how badly the Covid-19 pandemic affects the market and players’ values.
Part of that is down to the fact that should the season be finished, Lazio would play in the Champions League next year, meaning there’s no reason to weaken their side by allowing one of their best performers without at least getting adequate compensation.
