Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan, more commonly known as Trezeguet, may not have had the impact desired after his £9m transfer from Kasimpasa last summer, but he still had his uses.

It was his goal in the dying minutes of the semi-final against Leicester City that sent Aston Villa to the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, while his versatility has been heavily relied upon by Dean Smith throughout the 2019-20 campaign.

Four goals and three assists in 31 appearances isn’t the worst return in his first season in a new league, especially in a side struggling against relegation, and while there might have been hope for an better output next season, he might not be there to give it a go.

That’s because, according to Manu Lonjon, a journalist for Eurosport in France, Trezeguet is currently of interest to two very big Turkish clubs in Besiktas and Galatasaray.

He took to social media to reveal that while talks with the former ‘have been mentioned’, it’s the latter of the two who are ‘currently advancing’ with the Egypt international.

The idea would be for Galatasaray to buy him in case Sofiane Feghouli were to be sold in the summer, and Trezeguet therefore ‘could leave’ Villa Park in the coming months.

There’s no mention of price or any further detail, but it would be easy to assume that Aston Villa would want to recoup most, or even all, of their original £9m expenditure.
