Nico Gonzalez: Man City links hit the Spanish media
A lot of changes were made to Manchester City’s back-room staff when Pep Guardiola arrived at the club.
Coaches arrived at the club both for the youth and senior squads, with one of them being Deportivo La Coruna legend Fran Gonzalez, who now works at the Manchester City academy.
Interestingly, Gonzalez’s son, Nico, is in the La Masia academy, and plays for the youth teams of Barcelona. Many expected Nico to follow his father to Manchester City, but Fran, at that time, insisted his son is set to continue at Barcelona.
However, a new reality is being presented, as it’s been claimed, by Catalunya Radio journalist Quique Guasch (via Sport), that Nico Gonzalez is set to sign for Manchester City next summer.
At 14 years of age, Nico (he’s already getting the one name Catalan treatment) usually wouldn’t be able to sign for a club outside of Spain, but given his father is already working in Manchester, it makes things different.
Mundo Deportivo also cover the situation and they say Real Madrid are also interested, and nothing on the youngster’s future is settled yet. It’s explained Fran would be happy to have Nico in Manchester, but it’s not him making the decision.
Described as ‘very mature’, Nico will make the final decision himself, and could defy his father’s wishes.
