Spain’s Gol Digital say Real Betis are looking for ‘the next big signing’ and have identified Newcastle United’s Ayoze Perez.

Betis are working hard ahead of the summer window, trying to secure some impressive signings. Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, is one of the targets and Betis have been trying to get a free transfer lined up.

Perez would be a completely different scenario. His contract doesn’t end in the summer like Pau’s, it lasts until June 2021 and Newcastle would likely be reluctant sellers.

Betis would not only face the barrier of a relatively hefty transfer fee, but also face the prospect of having to hand Perez wages which would come with a Premier League premium, it’s not as though the Spanish club would be able to offer a big pay rise.

Despite that, Gol Digital reckon Perez is ‘seduced’ by the idea of playing for Betis and their attacking football is an attraction. The insinuation is that Betis’ game would suit Perez more than Newcastle United’s.

It’s a long shot.
