It’s starting to look like Chancel Mbemba’s agent and the Portuguese press overreacted a little bit when saying the agreement between Newcastle United and Porto was close.
Local newspapers had been taking the transfer as practically done, and now they have daily updates on the Dragons’ struggles to sign the defender.
Today, A Bola reports that Newcastle are being tough with their demands, and won’t accept less than the €9m they’re asking for the player.
Once again, the newspapers claims the information is coming ‘from England’, without explain if they mean their own English sources or if they’re covering some other outlet.
What A Bola asks now is if Porto will continue the negotiations or not. They wonder if the Dragons are willing to increase their initial €7m offer for the player.
Porto and Mbemba have had a personal agreement for over a week now, with the player signing a pre-contract with the Portuguese side.
But if the clubs don’t get to a deal, then that was all in vain.
