Wednesday saw multiple reports in Italy bring several updates on Newcastle United efforts to sign AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.
Late on Wednesday, Gianluca Di Marzio stated the Magpies have tabled a €70m bid, which is €10m short of the Rossoneri’s demand. He also said Newcastle’s sporting director has made a trip to Italy to try to convince Milan.
Sport Mediaset now state Eddie Howe’s side have proposed an offer of €70m plus €5m to the Italian club for the midfielder. It’s further claimed they ‘want a definitive answer’ from Milan ‘within 24 hours’.
Over at MilanNews.it, they point out Stefano Pioli’s side are requesting €80m for the 23-year-old, which is €5m [including bonuses] more than what Newcastle have offered.
They also say Milan would find it ‘impossible to refuse’ the offer made by the English club. This would give an indication there’s willingness from them to cash in from the player’s sale in this window.
According to Calciomercato, the Italy international is ‘one step away’ from Newcastle. After he accepted their offer, these are ‘very hot hours’ for the negotiations between the two clubs.
It’s claimed ‘only the final agreement is missing’ between Newcastle and Milan for Tonali to seal a move to St James’ Park.
Meanwhile, TuttoMercatoWeb now state Newcastle are ‘serious’ about Tonali and are ‘ready’ to make another improved bid. It’s claimed the ‘new offer’ includes a fixed fee of €80m and could reach around €90m with bonuses included.
