Newcastle United have joined European giants in the chase for Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons, according to Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.
The attacking midfielder spent this season on loan at RB Leipzig, managing 10 goals and 15 assists from 43 games.
His performances have caught the attention of several clubs and Newcastle are included in the list.
This is mentioned in a report that focuses on Barcelona’s desire to bring their youth player back to the club on a loan deal. His ability to operate in multiple positions and knowledge of the Catalan club makes him an ideal option.
Sky Deutschland state Bayern Munich have also shown interest in the 21-year-old. Mundo relay that and then give their own take on the competition Barca will face to sign him.
It’s explained that the Magpies are ‘very interested’ and want to sign the Netherlands international on loan in the summer window. As well as Newcastle, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen, are also keen on Simons.
Eddie Howe’s side would have to take on Barca, the two Premier League sides and the German champions for the ‘highly valued’ player.
It won’t be easy because Mundo state he favours a move to the La Liga side. There’s no mention of PSG’s stance on the player.
