Besiktas have finally made an official announcement regarding the contract extension of their captain Oguzhan Ozyakup.
The Turkish club have confirmed they’ve reached an agreement with Ozyakup and the player has signed a new five-year contract. The central midfielder will earn €2m a season.
Ozyakup has been linked with a move to Newcastle United this month and even though he’s committed himself to Besiktas the Premier League side still have a chance to sign him this summer.
It’s reported by Bein Sports his new contract has a €12m buyout clause, the fee Newcastle United reportedly offered just over a week ago.
Another twist in the never-ending saga with Ozyakup is that Besiktas may replace him with Locomotive Moscow midfielder Manuel Fernandes, another indication Newcastle United could still have a chance of signing the former Arsenal man.
It’s been well documented Ozyakup wants a return to the Premier League after his time with Arsenal, and this could still happen this summer.
This seems a mess of situation, and Newcastle may be best advised to stay clear.
