Less than a month after the last transfer window closed in September, Newcastle United announced they had reached an agreement with Australian side Central Coast Mariners for Garang Kuol.

As per the agreement between the two clubs, the forward will join the Magpies in January 2023.

The incoming Newcastle player made a handful of appearances for Central Coast Mariners and that was enough to make his debut for Australia back in September.

Socceroos manager Graham Arnold has included the 18-year-old in his squad for the 2022 World Cup. Austria Vienna’s James Holland has failed to make it to Qatar with the national team.

LAOLA1 interviewed Holland and during the course of the discussion, the 33-year-old was asked about the current stars of Australia. This is when he mentioned Newcastle’s signing.

“I think Aaron Mooy is a great footballer, he’s with Celtic now. He was in the Premier League for a long time [Huddersfield, Brighton & Hove Albion]. There’s also Ajdin Hrustic, who now plays for Hellas Verona in Italy. Ajdin has a very good left foot, he can also decide games,” Holland said.

“And in Garang Kuol we have another very talented young player. He is a very big talent and recently signed for Newcastle United.”

Holland was then asked whether Kuol can become the ‘new Harry Kewell’.

“That’s very difficult to say. I think you always have to be careful not to put too much pressure on a young player. He definitely has that ‘X-factor’. What he also brings with him is this will to work, and he is also very modest. The potential is definitely there,” he explained.

“It’s hard to tell if he’ll be like Harry Kewell, but I hope and believe he can have a great career.”
