Despite their lack of European football, Newcastle United are not being put off from going after some of the bigger names in football.
Their rather large funds will have something to do with this, knowing that money can change a few minds during the course of negotiations, and that might be why they believe they have a chance to get Nicolo Zaniolo.
The AS Roma star’s future at the Serie A side remains somewhat in the air despite his decisive goal in the Conference League final last week, and Gazzetta dello Sport have a quick look at the situation.
While the Italians are ‘ready to offer him a renewal proposal’, there are doubts that the €3.5m + bonuses on the table will be enough to convince him to sign on the dotted line.
That’s where other clubs, like Newcastle would come in.
Gazzetta explain that ‘if an offer of no less than €50m comes in, the club will consider it’, with Milan and Juventus two clubs he would be ‘willing to move’ to.
As for Newcastle, they are said to be ‘in the running’, but his desire to go there is somewhat ‘less’ than the other two, who could also offer him Champions League football.
That means the Magpies aren’t out of the race, but they just have a bit more convincing to do.
