Newcastle United’s interest in Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio was a subject on Portuguese TV on Thursday evening.

CNN Portugal came up claiming that with the Magpies going after a centre-back, they see the Lions’ player as a target, and their pundits made some comments about it.

As usual, it was said that Sporting have no intention of negotiating the player’s exit in the middle of the season, so Newcastle would need to trigger his €60m release clause to get him signed in January.

Pundit Diogo Luís highlighted Inácio’s ‘talent’, claiming he has ‘qualities that others don’t have’, and said that even though it isn’t yet known where the player will head to, the Magpies seem like a ‘good solution’ for his career.

Nuno Farinha, meanwhile, claimed that Newcastle and other interested clubs shouldn’t be scared by the player’s price, since he’s shown all his value at Sporting and with the national team in the past few seasons.

Even though CNN don’t bring big updates on the Magpies’ attempt, the Premier League side continue to be named as the club that stand out in the chase for the Portugal international for now.
