For the past three weeks, claims from Italy have talked about Newcastle United interest in Juventus’ Federico Chiesa.
On April 1st, Calciomercato.it reported the Magpies have contacted the forward’s camp. A week later, Corriere dello Sport said Eddie Howe’s side are seen as an attractive option for him.
Last Tuesday, Gazzetta dello Sport stated Newcastle are pressing to secure the 26-year-old’s services.
The former Fiorentina man’s contract lasts until 2025 and it’s not clear where his long-term future lies. The Turin club want to quickly push for an extension, likely to stop him from entering the last 12 months of his current deal.
This is one of the ‘delicate’ situations that the Old Lady are trying to resolve, but Chiesa is not in a rush.
The newspaper states he’s waiting to understand Juve’s moves, mainly on who will be the manager next season, and this could impact his decision on signing a new deal.
Meanwhile, Chiesa’s agent ‘can bring two top offers’ from England and Spain, where only Newcastle are named as the interested party from the Premier League.
It’s claimed the Magpies are ‘in pole position’ to sign the player, if he decides to leave the Italian club. Howe’ side, however, must watch out for Barcelona.
