So what’s been behind the club’s success? Newcastle were always likely to do well given the quality of their squad, but the often expected dramas have been pretty much sidestepped.
Speaking to Radio Marca, Newcastle’s Jesus Gamez was asked the secret behind the squad’s success this season.
“Benitez has made a difference in tactics and discipline in a young team like this,” explained Gamez.
At 32 years of age, Gamez has a year remaining on his Newcastle United contract, and it’s unclear what Rafael Benitez has planned for the player’s future.
