Newcastle United are getting on with their squad building ahead of next season, despite several distractions around at the moment. Rafael Benitez’s men have secured their promotion to the Premier League, and even a HMRC raid and investigation has done little to dampen the enthusiasm.
As Newcastle United were beating Cardiff City 2-0 on Friday night, thanks to goals from Christian Atsu and Isaac Hayden, a club official was in Portugal trying to find someone to join them next season.
Newcastle had someone watch the match between Vitoria Setubal and Vitoria Guimaraes, the latter won 2-0.
The presence of Newcastle in the stands is being reported by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, and they say Rafael Benitez’s spy was joined by officials from Arsenal, Genoa, Atalanta, Sevilla, Hertha Berlin, Eibar, Montpellier, and local side Benfica.
A Bola don’t state who Newcastle United were specifically watching, but given the clubs attending there’s obviously someone of interest.
