Newcastle United are 13th in the table with 25 points after 21 games and are five points above the relegation zone.
The Magpies have struggled to find the back of the net regularly and have scored only 20 goals in the Premier League this term. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Tyneside club look to bring in a new attacker in the winter market.
Corriere dello Sport claims AS Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi is also in the market looking for a backup for Edin Džeko. However, first he must convince Nikola Kalinić to leave.
In the last few hours the Croatian, who is on loan at the Serie A side from Atlético Madrid, has been offered to Steve Bruce’s side. The Italian newspaper reports it’s not clear if the 31-year-old would accept the opportunity to make a switch to Newcastle United.
Kalinić has been restricted to over 200 minutes of action in all competitions and despite that, he has no plans to leave Roma.
It’s also explained Verona and Genoa had asked about signing the former Blackburn Rovers man, but he turned them down.
Roma paid €2m for Kalinić’s loan deal and they have an option to make his transfer permanent. It’s unlikely they would exercise it.
