Just over a week ago France’s FootMercato reported serious Newcastle United interest in Jonathan Bamba.
Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle were said to be so interested that they were ready to make an offer, with only one thing holding things up. At the time Saint Etienne didn’t have a manager, so Newcastle were wary of putting an offer in only for the answer to be delayed.
The French report was published on June 15th, and later that same day Oscar Garcia was named new ASSE coach. Convenient for Newcastle United.
But nothing happened, Newcastle’s supposed offer is still pending, and now it seems another club has pushed forward for the winger. Sunday’s L’Equipe reports several clubs are interested, including Newcastle, but Werder Bremen have submitted a €4m offer for the 21 year old.
Why so low? Bamba’s contract ends in June 2018, so Saint Etienne are under pressure.
Garcia would like to keep the player, and there’s a plan to offer him an extension until 2020. If Newcastle are interested as FootMercato claimed, then they should probably make an offer for the winger pretty quickly.
