Perhaps of all the Serie A players being linked with Newcastle United right now, Aaron Ramsey is the likeliest to arrive.
Others, such as Federico Chiesa, Marcelo Brozovic, Stefan de Vrij and Matthijs de Ligt likely wouldn’t be tempted by joining the Magpies in the near future.
Newcastle currently have three points from seven matches, and that finds them second to last in the Premier League and in a relegation fight. Being realistic, they’re going to struggle to attract the very top players until their situation in the table changes hugely.
Players won’t want to annoy their national team managers by moving to a lower level team just for the money, but that’s not something Ramsey would need to worry about. He could be playing for a club in a relegation battle, or actually relegated, and it’s likely he’d still be picked for Wales should they even make it.
Newcastle are ‘ready to offer’ Ramsey a three-year deal. Given the whole thing is based on a January transfer, there’s no clarity if that three years would start from last summer or next. In European football, contracts have to be from summer to summer.
The 30-year-old currently has a deal with Juventus lasting until June 2023.
