After first reports from the English press, it’s now time for the Portuguese media to confirm Newcastle United’s interest in the Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Newspaper O Jogo claims the Magpies have made contact with the Eagles to know about the possibilities of a summer deal.
The Portuguese champions are reportedly demanding €15m to start talks, but no bids have been placed by the English side so far, according to the outlet.
Back on Friday, the very same O Jogo had already reported the interest from Roma, so Newcastle should face some competition for the goalkeeper as the Italians try to move on from Robin Olsen.
Vlachodimos joined Benfica on a €2.4m deal from Panathinaikos last summer and quickly got a starting spot in the team, having made 50 appearances and keeping 19 clean sheets.
O Jogo explain Newcastle watched the goalkeeper many times this season, and Rafa Benitez believes the Greek international would provide good competition for Martin Dúbravka at the club.
