Newcastle United have been named as one of the candidates to sign Youssoufa Moukoko as his future at Borussia Dortmund remains unclear.

The striker has less than six months left on his deal and the Bundesliga side’s desire is to retain him beyond this season. They have already tabled renewal offers, but the 18-year-old has still not accepted one.

BVB must also defend themselves from the interest shown by other clubs, and Newcastle are among them.

According to Sport1, the Magpies ‘lure’ the Germany international by offering ‘incredible’ figures. Eddie Howe’s side are willing to offer him a basic salary of €9m per year plus a €30m signing on bonus. This is likely for free transfer next summer.

However, Dortmund remain the attacker’s first priority and it is quite possible there will be a breakthrough in the renewal negotiations in the coming days. Sport1 state BVB are willing to offer him a €10m signing on bonus.

Meanwhile, Newcastle and Moukoko’s other suitors would be delighted to know Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted it is possible for his side to part ways with the player.

“It is legitimate that he is now trying to get a good position for himself. But it is just as legitimate that we have our ideas and if that is not congruent, then the cooperation will just not be continued,” Watzke told Sky Deutschland.

“That is the ultimate consequence, which can also happen. But of course, we hope that he stays with us. I think the whole process is quite normal. The difference is simply that he is only 18 years old and was already at the World Cup. This of course makes the whole thing even more public.”
