Maybe Andreas Samaris isn’t the only Benfica player who Newcastle United are interested in. The Magpies have another one on their list, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
The outlet claim Lisandro Lopez is also on the radar. Newcastle are said to have been following the defender for a long time, and as his situation at the Lisbon club is not defined, an exit is certainly possible.
Even with Victor Lindelof’s departure to Manchester United, it’s unlikely Lopez will get a starting spot in the team, so a transfer isn’t ruled out. He only stayed last season because Jardel got injured, so the club didn’t want him to complete a move to Fiorentina.
O Jogo doesn’t mention how much Benfica would ask from Newcastle United for Lopez.
Last summer the Portuguese press claimed Benfica were asking for around €10m, although they would certainly push for more just because Newcastle United are in the Premier League.
