Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in signing Sevilla goalkeeper Bono, according to claims from the Spanish media today.
Fichajes writes that following the player’s good years with the Nervion side, there are now several Premier League clubs who’d like to have him next year.
The Magpies are said to be one of them, even though it’s still not clear if Sevilla will accept negotiating the exit of one of their most important players.
Bono is currently protected with a contract lasting until 2024, and the La Liga side are said to be working on a renewal already, so they can swat away any worries of losing him.
However, Fichajes adds that club director Monchi has been looking for potential replacements in the market, as they know that interested sides could come for Bono’s signing and he may not be keen on signing a new deal.
Bono is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €18m, and it’s not clear how much Newcastle would offer for his signing, while it’s fair to say that Sevilla won’t let him go for a bargain price.
The 30-year-old was born in Montreal, Canada, and his full name is Yassine Bounou, with the Spanish media always referring to him as Bono. He moved to Morocco as a youngster, and that’s where he started his footballer career, before signing for Atletico Madrid in 2012.
Bono is an experienced international with Morocco.
