Things are lining up pretty well for Newcastle United to sign Ruben Semedo in the next transfer window.

After reporting an approach from Newcastle for the defender, the Portuguese media now claims he should be sold for much less than his release clause.

Newspaper O Jogo has a story today saying Sporting are planning to make signings that are normally considered a little expensive for them, and the sale of Semedo could pay for one or two arrivals.

So although the player has a €45m release clause, it’s said that €20m should be enough for Rafael Benitez to take him from the Portuguese side. The club are in a hurry to get the money before approaching their own targets.

Lille are the strongest side in the chase at the moment, but Newcastle are still being considered  tough competition after the approach they made earlier this month.

It’s now a matter of getting to the player first, because Semedo seems ready to go.

Sporting are keen to sell, the price isn’t too high, Benitez will need to make a decision on this quickly.
