There is a claim in the Italian media that Newcastle United are to set to increase their offer to sign Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro.

The Italian has been linked with the Magpies in recent weeks after reports Rafa Benitez is keen to bring the player to St James’ Park.

TMW have reported on the latest developments over Sturaro’s future, and state the Juventus man has turned down the chance to head to China, because he’s ‘waiting for Newcastle’.

The Premier League club earlier this month offered €13m to sign the central midfielder, but this was rejected by the Serie A champions.

However, the Magpies are now prepared to offer €14m plus €2m bonuses, but TMW say Juventus are still holding out for €18m.

Sturaro’s agent Carlo Volpi was recently quizzed on Newcastle interest, and said“It would be very difficult to stay in Italy if it’s not with Juve. The most suitable football to the characteristics of Stefano is the English game, but from Spain there is significant interest coming.

“However, I repeat today we are far from a separation, in the next few weeks things will be clearer.”
