Over the past couple of days, Il Mattino have been all over the Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea story, and they keep providing informative updates on the situation.

Yesterday saw the Italian newspaper report the former Napoli manager was starting to show the first signs of worry that a deal between the Blues and Antonio Conte would not be reached, and he’d be forced to be without a job for another year or so.

With that still unresolved, the worry is still there, but Chelsea are, at the same time, trying to sort out Sarri’s situation with Napoli, and it’s hard to be in two places at once.

Il Mattino explain that today will most likely be the first ‘true’ contact between the Serie A side and the Stamford Bridge based club, despite previous claims of a €5m agreement being found to free the 59-year-old of his contract in Italy.

Their Wednesday report suggested there was a chance Maurizio Sarri could have a chat with Aurelio de Laurentiis to try and put their past issues to bed, and they believe that could still take place prior to the chat between the two sides to help smooth things over.

This meeting between the two sides will also be a good time to potentially opens discussions over the transfer of David Luiz, but that probably isn’t a priority for either club just yet.
