Despite reported Newcastle United interest in Valencia striker Maxi Gomez, the Magpies don’t look close to signing the 26-year-old this summer.
Spanish outlet El Desmarque today features a story pointing out that the player is now a top target for Fenerbahce, and the chances of a transfer are very plausible.
The report insists that Valencia are still to receive an official bid for the forward, but with reports from Turkey claiming the Istanbul side are offering €8m, it’s said that’d be enough for the La Liga side to accept the exit.
El Desmarque claims Bologna, Newcastle and Fiorentina have all shown up as interested sides, but with Fenerbahce looking more advanced, Turkey seems like the ‘most likely’ destination for the striker.
Valencia had actually been demanding €12m for the transfer. However, it’s now considered that the ‘market’ won’t pay that much for Gomez, and that’s why they’d settle for the €8m offered by the Turkish club.
So, perhaps, if Newcastle show up with a more attractive bid, there’s a chance for a turnaround in the scenario, and to add a back-up option to the squad.
