It’s no secret that clubs try to sign players early in the transfer window to avoid competition. And that’s exactly what Newcastle United should do in case they’re really in for Miguel Layun this summer.
The Porto left-back is set to leave the club this summer, and the list of interested sides is only growing. At the end of last month, it was claimed the Magpies, Espanyol and Roma all want him. Now it’s time for Sevilla to be included, and with that, his price is going up.
When covering the Sevilla interest today, Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims that Porto are now demanding a fee of around €8m for the 28-year-old.
That’s already two million more than last month, when Record said the €6m that Porto paid to sign him from Watford last summer would be enough. All the Dragons wanted was to recover the investment, but with this competition, it seems they’re realising that more money can be made.
Should Newcastle be as keen as was reported then they’ll be further encouraged to move fast after Ruben Semedo joined Villarreal from under their noses.
