This weekend there’s been some concern in Italy that Newcastle United could hijack a deal for a Sampdoria target.

As reported by Calcio Mercato, the Serie A side are really keen on signing Lovro Majer NK Lokomotiva Zagreb, and will try to do so in the next transfer window.

The problem is that Newcastle are also interested, and have already made an attempt in the January market.

According to the website, the Magpies have held talks with the Croatian side and negotiated a deal which was supposed to be done for around €15-18m. Despite the Premier League club trying ‘seriously’ they couldn’t agree all the terms on a deal to sign a player dubbed ‘The Messi of the Balkans’.

Now Sampdoria are believed to have a new chance to sign the 20-year-old, despite the many rejected offers they’ve already made for him.

With seven goals and three assists this season, the midfielder is said to be impressing many European sides. But will Newcastle give up or try again in the summer window? Sampdoria certainly seemed concerned about that.
