It’s not every year you see a Newcastle United player linked with the likes of Inter Milan and Real Madrid during a transfer window, but this summer has been a bit different.
Moussa Sissoko’s performances during the latter stages of the Euro 2016 seemingly impressed many clubs around Europe, and some of the biggest hitters have reportedly expressed an interest in the former Toulouse midfielder.
The 27-year-old, who is yet to make an appearance for Rafa Benitez’s side so far this season, has made it clear he wants a move away from the Championship, preferably for a team playing in the Champions League.
With that dream evaporating a bit more every day we get closer to transfer deadline day, he might need to just make do with a club in the Europa League, and Inter Milan are the closest to acquiring his services.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle are still asking for a ridiculous €40m (£34.5m) for their star midfielder, while Inter Milan are currently willing to only spend €32m, or £27.6m.
The Italian newspaper make it clear Sissoko is an alternative for Joao Mario, but that prices are being talked about suggests it might be closer than it looks.
Frankly, if we were Mike Ashley and co., we’d take the offer and run, but that’s clearly not a priority for the owner.
Pay up, or he’s not going anywhere appears to be the message.
Either that, or no one is actually that interested in Sissoko.
Frankly, we fully expect this to drag on until transfer deadline day. Will there be a helicopter? We hope so. We like helicopters.
