Moussa Diaby’s departure from Bayer Leverkusen is seen as inevitable this summer, with Newcastle United very much in the mix for his signature.
Kicker cover the player today and Leverkusen’s plans for the summer, in which there will be something of an overhaul of Xabi Alonso’s squad.
They say that the Frenchman ‘will leave’ this summer as the German side have determined that any contract extension to his current deal, which expires in 2025, is ‘out of the question’.
Diaby had already expressed his desire to move to a top club last summer and Leverkusen are happy to sell if they receive a ‘suitable offer’ for him, which would have to be in the ‘upper double-digit millions’.
That should come as good news to Newcastle, who’ve been chasing Diaby’s signature since last summer and are in the mix again this year.
A report at the end of last month made it clear that the player is ‘wanted’ by the Magpies and followed numerous reports beforehand indicating that they liked the player.
Indeed, a report on the 24th May stated that Newcastle were engaging in a ‘tug of war’ with Paris Saint Germain for Diaby’s signature.
That was a further indication of their admiration of the Frenchman and with Leverkusen now seemingly setting themselves up for a sale, perhaps now is a good time to make a definitive move.
