Prior to the weekend, there were a number of stories coming out stating that Pepe Reina had agreed a deal with AC Milan for next season, turning down Rafa Benitez and Newcastle in the process.
However, over the weekend, Corriere dello Sport made it clear that wasn’t the case, with the Spaniard still to decide where he will end up when his contract with Napoli comes to an end.
That means there’s still a bit of hope for the Magpies and their manager, who oversaw his career rejuvenation after a stale year at Bayern Munich, but it’s not all good news.
While both Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain are after the former Liverpool goalkeeper’s services, he would prefer to stay in Italy.
Corriere explain that Rafa Benitez’s interest was pretty much ‘automatic’, but that a final decision has yet to be taken by the 35-year-old.
AC Milan are still in the lead due to their geographical location, but it’s certainly not done yet.
