If you thought Erik Lamela to Inter was dead and buried, you were wrong. It will never be dead and buried.

The interest dates back to 2016 (at least), when the Serie A side were then ‘dreaming’ of bringing in the Tottenham forward, but injuries have since calmed that down a little bit.

Still, the Serie A side haven’t given up on Lamela, and Gazzetta dello Sport reveal on Monday the 26-year-old is still very much a part of their transfer plans if they can convince him to leave Wembley.

Needing reinforcements across the board, Inter are currently focusing on potential free agents such as Stefan De Vrij, Kwadwo Asamoah and Shakhtar’s Bernard, meaning they could have some spare cash to get the Spurs man as well.

With a contract keeping him in London until 2020, Tottenham would, of course, ask for money, and while they might not get the £27m they spent on him in the first place back, they can certainly try and get as much as possible.

Seemingly over his physical problems now, and with extra competition for a role with the arrival of Lucas Moura, next summer could be the best time for Spurs to cash in and Inter to finally get their man.
