Newcastle United don’t seem to have much competition for the signing of Duvan Zapata from Atalanta.
That’s something said by Italian outlet Calciomercato, who talk about the Colombians who may leave the Serie A side in the upcoming months.
Speaking of Zapata, the outlet writes that Newcastle are ‘the only suitor’ for him at this time.
That may be one of the reasons why the Magpies don’t want to spend much on the signing. According to the story, the Premier League club are ‘not prepared to pay more than €12m’ for his arrival at St. James’ Park.
Calciomercato points out Zapata recently signed a new contract with Atalanta, extending his deal until 2025, and that’s why his departure in January ‘remains difficult’.
The striker has been of little use for the Serie A side this season, with only one goal and one assist in nine appearances, and that’s why there isn’t a huge race for his signing at the moment.
By knowing that, there’s indeed no reason for Newcastle to put a big fee on the table, especially considering his age and recent injury record.
