All of a sudden, it appears Newcastle United have decided to fully open their wallet and send offers left, right and centre for players.
One of the big ones has been the €40m sent to Lyon for Bruno Guimarães, who is now keen on the transfer, having told his agents as much, as reported by L’Equipe.
This comes after news from Brazil that the player had accepted the offer from the Magpies, but what’s interesting is that unlike their South American counterparts, the French newspaper state the offer still hasn’t been accepted.
The reason for that is because Newcastle ‘want to spread the transfer over five years’, which doesn’t suit the Ligue 1 side, ‘who are still negotiating’.
The ‘official desire’ from Lyon is to keep Guimarães until the end of the season before allowing him to go in June, but the ‘financial reality should alter that idea’, meaning Newcastle ‘have the inside track’ on the competition, comprised of Arsenal and Juventus, ‘to conclude the deal in the coming days’.
Regardless of what happens, however, ‘it will not be before Friday, at least’, because that’s the day the Brazil national team land in Brazil, in Belo Horizonte, which is where ‘an eventual medical could take place’.
Until then, L’Equipe explain ‘talks will continue’ and all that’s left to do is wait and see ‘which direction Bruno Guimarães will take’ on February 3rd after the Brazil-Ecuador game.
Will it be ‘Lyon, to go home, or Newcastle, for a new life’?
