Tottenham are expected to complete a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat ‘by the weekend’ as the player has given his approval to the move.

That’s according to journalist Gianluca di Marzio and website Firenze Viola, who say that negotiations between the two clubs are advancing.

Spurs are keen to strengthen their squad before the end of the transfer window, with Antonio Conte having pushed for new signings since his arrival at the club.

It appeared he would not get them, but things are progressing quickly at the end of the window, and Amrabat has emerged as a player at the top of their list.

He’s been named as a replacement for Tanguy Ndombele, and Di Marzio now reports that they are close to getting their man.

He says that talks between Tottenham and Fiorentina ‘continue apace’ as Conte and co. have Amrabat ‘in their sights’. He is set to move to London on loan and is ‘ready’ to join up with Conte at Spurs.

This is somewhat backed up by Firenze Viola, who also say a deal is close to being completed and believe the white smoke is ‘expected by the weekend’.

For anyone wondering what the white smoke is, it’s a reference to the white smoke that confirms the selection of a new Pope and is regularly used in Italy for transfers. In short, it means a transfer is completed.

It’s yet to be released here, but there’s a growing sense it will be sooner rather than later, with the deal close to being completed now that Amrabat has given his okay to joining Conte at Tottenham.
