Newcastle United and AS Roma are ‘some interested teams’ to have come forward to sign Barcelona’s Memphis Depay, according to Marca.

With a contract expiring next June, the forward’s sale in the winter market would be a ‘great joy’ for the La Liga side. It will allow them to improve their finances, something which is needed to carry out renewals and make new signings in January.

Newcastle and AS Roma have only showed interest and not made a bid so far. That’s because the 28-year-old intends to leave the Camp Nou as a free agent next summer.

The Netherlands international wanting to finish the season at the Catalan club is reported by today’s AS.

The report also explains Barca’s need to raise funds to improve their economic conditions and Depay’s sale in the next window will help them in this regard.

Newcastle are tagged as they are ‘seriously interested’ in the bringing the ex-Manchester United man back to the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s side are the ‘most serious’ among the Dutchman’s suitors.

In the next few days, the Magpies will try to convince Depay to join them in January.

AS’s report comes days after Sport stated Newcastle hope to convince the player to leave Barca for the English club.

With two sources insisting the Tyneside club will try to sign Depay, it will be interesting to see whether they will be successful.
