Manchester United and Arsenal are ahead of others in the race to sign Atlético Madrid’s João Félix.

The forward has four goals and three assists this season despite his poor relationship with Diego Simeone. This has convinced him to leave the La Liga side in January, which was earlier revealed by Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín.

Monday’s edition of AS explains Manchester United and Arsenal are the ‘two best-placed clubs’ when it comes to signing the 23-year-old in the winter market.

Although the Portugal international wants a move, Los Rojiblancos are not willing to sell him at a discount rate. It’s claimed they will need a fee of around €100m, a figure that not many of the star’s suitors would be able to match in the next window.

For this reason, the Spanish club ‘agree’ to let go of the former Benfica man on loan until the end of this season, without any inclusion of option or obligation to buy.

If Manchester United and Arsenal want to sign Félix in January, they must pay a €9m loan fee and also take care of his full wages during his temporary stay.

Both English clubs need to bolster their attack since Cristiano Ronaldo left the Red Devils while the Gunners will be without Gabriel Jesus for the next few months.
