Newcastle United were one of several clubs to keep monitor Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson on Thursday evening, according to claims coming out of Turkey.
The 23-year-old left Danish side FC Copenhagen and made a switch to Istanbul in the summer of 2021, where he signed a five-year contract. When the deal was made official, CNN Turk stated the deal also includes a €25m release clause.
Operating in the heart of the defence, the Denmark international has been a regular for the Süper Lig side in his debut season, making 40 appearances in all competitions.
His fine displays have caught attention of several clubs, including the Magpies, which is why they sent an official to watch the centre-back in action for Galatasaray against Barcelona for the second leg of the round of 16 Europa at Nef Stadium on Thursday.
Fanatik state officials of European clubs ‘flocked the stadium’ for the tie and they ‘closely followed’ Nelsson, Kerem Aktürkoğlu, Berkan Kutlu, Marcão and Mostafa Mohamed.
It’s claimed the scouts of the Tyneside club, AC Milan and Napoli had their eyes focused on Nelsson.
