Newcastle United have turned their attention to Almeria star Umar Sadiq as Eddie Howe looks to add a striker to his squad in January.
With Howe now confirmed as Steve Bruce’s replacement, attention has turned to getting points on the board and getting out of the mess the Magpies find themselves in.
That will be the focus for the next month or so, but then all eyes will be on the January transfer window, which will be Newcastle’s first opportunity to splash their newfound wealth and improve the squad.
According to Fichajes, one of the signings Howe is keen to make is a striker, and the Newcastle board are already ‘scouring the market’ for one.
In that search, they have reportedly set their sights on Almeria, and specifically their star striker Sadiq.
He joined the Mediterranean outfit two seasons ago and has been the star of the show since then, with 29 goals and 13 assists in 58 games so far. Those numbers have earned him plenty of admirers, and Newcastle are now one of them.
There’s no indication of whether they’ve made a move or not as yet, just that he is on their list of potential targets.
Should they move, though, Fichajes make it clear that Almeria will want to make a ‘big profit’ on the €5m they paid to sign the striker from Partizan Belgrade.
They see him as a similar case to that of Darwin Núñez, who also signed for the second division outfit for a big price but was then sold to Benfica for €25m.
There’s a belief that Sadiq could leave for a similar price, meaning Newcastle will have to dig deep into their pockets.
