Despite Newcastle United’s brilliant start to the campaign, Eddie Howe doesn’t appear to be done with the recruiting at St James’ Park.
We say this because Media Foot in France are claiming that the Magpies are refusing to give up in attempts to sign Julian Draxler from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Germany international is among the players the Ligue 1 side are trying to get off their books before the end of the transfer window, but he’s nowhere near as close as leaving as others, such as Leandro Paredes and Idrissa Gueye.
The outlet explain Luis Campos are ‘working hard’ to find Draxler a new club, despite the player spending most of his summer ‘refusing offers’.
As things stand, ‘two tracks are currently being studied’ for the 28-year-old, with the first being an exit to England where Newcastle, who reportedly failed in attempts to sign Seko Fofana and Lucas Paqueta, are ‘charging’ to sign the German.
In fact, Media Foot claim ‘an offensive will take place on Wednesday’, although no details as to the amount or whether the player is interested are provided.
All they claim is that Newcastle will make their move for a player his club are desperate to sell, which should make the first part of negotiations fairly straightforward.
If that first hurdle is overcome, we’ll then have to wait and see if Draxler has any desire to move to the north of England.
As for the second option, that would appear to be a move to Valencia, who certainly don’t have as much money to spend as Newcastle.
