Plucked from Lorient’s B team by Manchester City back in 2013, Seko Fofana never managed to make an appearance for the Etihad based side during his time there.
He made a number of appearances for the club’s U23s, though, and was sent on a couple of loans before being sold to Udinese in 2016, where he developed and earned himself a move to RC Lens in 2020.
Since then, he’s grown from strength to strength, and has caught the eye of a few Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United.
This comes from But! Football Club, who explain the 26-year-old was the subject of interest from the Magpies in the last transfer window, as they had ‘manifested themselves in January’.
That clearly didn’t lead to anything, but this summer could be different, as the once Manchester City U23 player could be sold in the summer if he pushes for a transfer.
The French website explain Newcastle remain ‘in the running’ for the player, but could face competition from other Premier League sides, such as Tottenham.
Whether Fofana’s next move is one back to England remains to be seen, but if he does choose to travel the Channel once again, his time at Manchester City could be of great help for his next club, since little adaptation to life on these shores will be needed.
It will now be up to Newcastle, who are expected to make big moves in the summer, to convince both Lens and their star player that a move to Tyneside is the right idea.
