Having bolstered the right-back position by signing Kieran Trippier, Newcastle United are reportedly looking to strengthen the left side of their defence in the winter market.

Two days ago, we carried a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, who explained Robin Gosens is the ‘number one goal’ for the Tyneside club.

According to Sky Deutschland, the Atalanta player has received a ‘concrete offer’ from the Magpies which includes a deal worth €3.5m net per year. The two clubs are in talks, but are yet to come to an agreement over a deal.

Over at TuttoMercatoWeb, they state there has been contact between Eddie Howe’s side and the entourage of the Germany international in recent days. It’s even stated a ‘general agreement has been reached’ between the two parties.

Newcastle, however, ‘want guarantees on full physical recovery’ of Gosens before making a concrete approach. He last featured for the Serie A side against Young Boys back in September 2021 and has been sidelined since then with a hamstring injury.

This would suggest Eddie Howe’s side are unlikely to make a move for Gosens in January, unless they receive assurances and an update on his injury situation.
