Newcastle United are in negotiations with Alavés about another loan deal for Florian Lejeune after his successful spell with the Spanish club last season.
That’s according to AS, who say the defender is Alavés’ first choice and ‘main candidate’ to return to the club.
They explain that Alavés were keen to announce a deal for Rodrigo Ely, but his situation has changed, so they have instead turned their attention to getting Lejeune back.
Newcastle ‘do not count on him’ and talks are now underway between both clubs over another loan deal.
Indeed, AS are confident that it will be agreed at some point, labeling the move ‘practically a done deal’ that is simply ‘pending confirmation’.
The idea at the moment is to secure another loan deal, but a transfer should not be ruled out if it is ‘cheap’ for the Babazorro team.
Lejeune is currently with Newcastle but missed their pre-season clash with York over the weekend, with Steve Bruce admitting the player is likely on his way back to Spain.
That is now in the pipeline, with a deal seemingly close between both clubs for the Frenchman to return in some capacity.
